Some Knowledge of Diamond Segments
The working layer of a diamond blade is call a diamond segment. The segments are carriers of diamond crystals (usually synthetic), held in place by a metal alloy called the Bond or Matrix. To make a diamond segment the diamonds are mixed with metal powders in a mold and put into a furnace where the metal is melted into a block. These blocks are then welded onto a metal plate to form a grinding wheel. The diamond crystals and bonding matrix can be varied to suit different cutting applications
